FOR RIDESHARE AND DELIVERY DRIVERS

Is this trip worth accepting?

Compare an offer with all the miles and time it requires. This calculator estimates the amount left after the vehicle cost you enter. It does not promise earnings or account for every tax or expense.

Example: $18 payout, 12 total miles, 35 minutes and $0.35 vehicle cost per mile leave $13.80 before taxes and other costs. That is $1.15 per total mile, or $23.66 per hour for this trip's time only.

Include the miles you are not being paid to drive

The trip shown in an offer may not include the distance to the pickup or the miles needed to reach your next useful location. Add those miles when they apply. Include likely waiting and repositioning time as well. The hourly estimate is for this opportunity, not a prediction of a full shift.

Use your own operating-cost estimate

Fuel is only part of vehicle cost. Consider maintenance, tires, depreciation and the other vehicle expenses you want the estimate to cover. The example's $0.35 is an illustration, not a recommended rate. Avoid counting an expense twice if it is already included in your cost per mile.

The calculation, without the app

Total miles = pickup + trip + extra miles. Estimated vehicle cost = total miles × your cost per mile. Amount left = expected payout − estimated vehicle cost. Divide that amount by total miles for the per-mile estimate, or by total minutes and multiply by 60 for the hourly equivalent.

Questions drivers ask

Is this take-home pay?

No. It is the payout minus the vehicle cost you entered. Taxes, tolls, parking, unpaid time outside the estimate and any other omitted expenses still need to be considered.

Should I include a tip that is not confirmed?

Use the payout you can reasonably support. Compare a second scenario if the final tip or payout is uncertain; do not treat the higher scenario as guaranteed.

Does this calculator connect to Uber or Lyft?

No. You enter the numbers manually. No account connection is required, and this calculation runs in your browser.
