What is a good dollars-per-mile target for Uber or Lyft?

There is no universal minimum that makes every ride profitable. Pickup, time, destination, and vehicle cost can change the answer.

Calculate using total commitment

A ride can look strong per mile but still consume too much time, require a long unpaid pickup, or leave you far from useful demand. Another ride may have modest mileage but move you toward a useful destination.

Payout ÷ total committed miles, then compare payout ÷ total committed hours

Use both distance and time

Calculate payout per total mile and payout per total hour, then subtract a realistic vehicle-cost estimate. Treat the result as decision support—not guaranteed earnings.
